What Makes a GOOD Sign?

It is important to examine the factors of what makes a good outdoor sign in order to not waste your money when it comes to advertising.

People go out everyday to go to the office to buy something, to eat or just have a walk around town. This is the reason why outdoor signs that can be seen everyday are ideal.

Simple and straight to the point is what makes a sign effective. It is one that will be remembered by the passers by. You only have a few seconds to introduce your product or service and capture the attention of people.  You likely will miss it if you have too much information and graphics.

However, very simple ads, without any graphics at all, tend to be disregarded as well because they are too boring.

Using loud and contrasting colors is one way to have a good outdoor sign. Just be careful to not use a color combination that is irritating to the eyes. The last thing you want is to have a sign that is not pleasing to the eye.

The use of photographs is the most powerful way to have an effective sign. People love pictures, especially those that tell a story. If you can get a photo that captures the essence of your advertisement, then you can use it on your outdoor signs. You may not necessarily even have to have text with it!

REMEMBER: A picture says a thousand words!

Another key to successful outdoor signs is the LOCATION. Even if you have the perfect graphics or the perfect tagline that captures the attention of anyone, if your outdoor sign is located where only a few people can see it, then your sign will not be effective. Make sure you put your signs in places with lots of foot or vehicle traffic.
