Use the Proper Colours.
Too often we see signs where either too many or too few colours are incorporated into the design. If only one colour is used, it makes drawing the eye into the sign difficult. On the other hand; using too many colours can limit the ability of the sign to be effective, causing 'design clutter' As well colours can easily clash and make the design look unprofessional.
Typically we recommend using a minimum of two and a maximum of 4 'solid' colours when designing. This will be enough to make your sign noticeable, but not too distracting or overwhelming. Always remember that the colours you choose will have a major effect on how readable your sign will be. ie: Black on Yellow is easier to read than red on grey.
If you are using a corporate logo, always complement its design by utilizing one of its colours in another element of the design, ie: text or border. Photos or other graphic elements usually include a very wide array of colours, but often there will be a couple of 'DOMINANT' theme-like colours that can easily be spotted. Draw from these and incorporate them in supporting text or borders.
